This video has targeting plays that are NOT targeting fouls. The plays on the Online Mechanics from Oregon High School Association are plays that are targeting fouls. These “Not Targeting” plays will generate a lot of good discussion on the ten plays.

The helmet plays video is 22:41 long. The first 15:50 deal with plays with the helmet coming off. The last ten plays from 15:50 to 22:41 has ten plays where the hit/play should be a no call “Not Targeting”.
“Not Targeting” plays begin at 15:50 of the helmet video.
Please review these ten “Not Targeting” plays! If you have use of internet at your region meetings–these plays create a lot of discussion.
Points of Emphasis from helmet video:
- Get the plays right that we need to get right; pick up flag on the play we misinterpreted
- The more you see plays and key indicators officials will be able to determine what is targeting and not targeting
- Runner is not a defenseless player
- Crew communication–discuss with another official on the field to see exactly what happened–maybe that official had a better look at the play
- Just because play/hit looks bad does not mean it is a targeting hit/foul
